Kirsty Melmed Life Coach | Aventuring to Coaching

Did you know I’ve been to 31 countries and I’ve lived in Corfu, Rome, Lyon and London?!

Before I became a coach I worked for the youth travel company Contiki. I spent 5 years being paid to live and travel through Europe. You might be wondering why on earth I left such a dream job…

In my final 2 years with Contiki, I was a supervisor, training and managing over 60 staff members throughout Europe, of different nationalities, all aged 18 to 25. Part of my job was travelling to each city where we had a team based and having one on one catch ups with each team member. These were meant to be about performance management but they quickly became deeply personal. I found myself asking questions which got them thinking about their personal growth and teaching them a lot about authentic communication and interpersonal skills. Each time I saw the team again I would follow up on the goals they had set for themselves. This became my favourite part of my job – empowering those young adults to know who they are and to share that awesome person with those around them.

When I decided to move back to Cape Town I didn’t really know what I wanted to do. I had an undergrad in psychological counselling and a passion for empowering others. I did some research and discovered an entire profession dedicated to just that, it was called Life Coaching!

I did some research and found a training program I felt aligned with. This led me on a journey of self-discovery and really ignited my passion for coaching. The natural ability I had was expanded and honed until I not only had the calling to be a coach but the skills too.As soon as my training finished I quit my day job and declared myself open for business.

I am so thankful for all the beautiful, inspiring and incredible places I was lucky to see during my years with Contiki. I am also so grateful for all the skills I learnt and the life experience I gained. Each and every person I encountered contributed to where I am today. As Contiki says, I have #noregrets and truly know what it means to #LiveLifeAuthentically
